Welcome to Microsoft Community and I am happy to assist you in setting up your Hotmail/Outlook account from your devices. To begin with, this happens when your account went out of sync with the phone, or the mail server settings were not configured properly.

You can easily resolve this by updating your phone's operating system, or through any of the following procedures:

• Removing and re-adding your account from the phone. Check out this link for the steps: Mobile Outlook.com  (Restart the phone for the changes to take effect.)

• Set the Mail days to sync to a shorter timeframe since this will eliminate any bandwidth issues.

• Moving the emails from inbox to a temp folder. This is to determine if there are corrupted emails causing synchronization problems.
• Make sure that your Microsoft account password is not too long, and must be no longer than 16 characters. If it is too long, go to the Change your password page and change it to a shorter password.
• The asterisks must correspond to the number of characters in your password to make sure that they match. For example, your password is abcd1234 , then the amount of asterisks should be the same, ******** . If you find that there's an excess asterisk at the end of your password, kindly delete it and login to your account.

Have similar issue with iphone.  Getting cannot connect to server.  When troubleshooting, getting the message, pop3.live.com is incorrect.  Do know what the issue is at this moment.  I'm at a lost.

HI, I am experiencing the same problem.

I have a Macbook and have been accesing my hotmail account using POP with no problem until last February when I started to receive alert messages indicating that may be a problem with the network or mail account.

I have reviewed the information, even deleted and created the account again on mail but the problem continues.

In other posts I saw that you mad esome reset from your side to the account and it starts to work again.

Please your help.
